The Perks Of Writing

This video clip is the end of the film adaptation of the novel I wrote about, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I wanted to share this scene with you all because it ends the movie and is also the conclusion of the novel. The main character, Charlie, has a line which says "...you helped me. Even if you didn't know what I was talking about or know someone who's gone through it, you made me not feel alone" which I think describes my semester. So many of you in this class gave me so much feedback and suggestions for my paper and it helped me tremendously. I'm so glad we were able to do things like peer evaluations, blog posts comments, and chat sessions because they were the biggest influences on my writing. I know now the importance of social proof when writing important things like this.


We started our journey with our papers when we first had to pick a book to talk about with our classmates. I really enjoyed doing that be it gave me a chance to express my admiration for the novel. Then we started doing some preliminary research (tried to link digital dialogue but doesn't work) which is when I found many of my strongest sources. When we began doing our blog posts, that's when things started to progress. My first couple of posts got great comments. Four classmates had commented on my personal narrative post which showed me there was interest in my book. I really appreciated that. Then when I posted my thesis in the works, the wonderful Sophie and Chelsea gave me their input and I really took it into consideration. Fast forwarding a couple weeks, the drafts began. My paper shell was a great start to formulating ideas and the structure of my argument. It was a preview of what I was getting myself into. I was set on this topic. By the time I did my next drafts there was nothing but hard work to be done. It started to get more challenging when I wrote my paper build because my points began to mesh instead of standing on their own. I then tried to focus on placing my sources correctly in my paper and making sure they were doing their job. Finally, after a couple more blog posts, my paper was there. All the effort was paying off. The final product was something really cool that was an awesome experience to do.

My process and gotten tons better with all the practice we've had in this course. I still have things to work on but I've definitely learned a lot. I think the best thing about this paper is that it reminded me why I love this book. Stephen Chbosky did a great job creating this book and directing this novel. I had a wonderful experience writing about both of them! So here is my final paper, The Perks of Being an Audience.
